Preventative Care: Checkups Checkups at the dentist are not just designed to catch dental problems, but also to prevent them. It allows the dentist to check the condition and health of your teeth and of your mouth. Adults should see a dentist as often as the dentist recommends checkups. For those with a history of tooth decay, that could be as often as every few months. For others with healthy teeth, perhaps once a year. Regular dental checkups are the best way to prevent major dental problems later in life.
Brushing & Flossing Flossing is probably the most neglected aspect of most people's dental hygiene program. Yet, if everyone flossed, as they should, a great deal of dental disease, decay, and tooth loss would be eliminated. When you eat, plaque works it way into areas between your teeth. Normal brushing, no matter how well or consistently you do it, simply will not remove this accumulation of plaque. If you do not floss regularly over a period of time, this decay-causing plaque will cause gingivitis, an early form of gum disease.
Intra-Oral X-Ray If you've been to the dentist, then it's almost a certainty that you've had intra-oral rays taken of your teeth. These are simply the dentist's best diagnostic tool when it comes to the condition and health of the inside of your teeth. The X rays can show any decay or problems not just on the surface of the teeth, but also below the gum line, in the root structure, and also in the surrounding bones of your face.
Fluoride & Sealants Fluoride is very important for the growth and maintenance of healthy teeth. At Family Dental Care Associates we typically treat your children with flouride treatments and sealants to start your child on the right track to good oral health. Used on a regular basis, fluoride toothpaste and mouthrinse also greatly reduce the risk of tooth decay.

Additional Areas of Care: Oral Surgery We offer same day emergency care. If you are in pain, we will evaluate your needs and if necessary, our dentists can remove most teeth that require routine extraction. We also have doctors in our group who can provide you with extraction of wisdom teeth, full mouth extractions and IV or oral sedation. Whether your concerns are the elimination of tooth pain or addressing your entire oral condition, we assure you that we will provide your care in a comfortable, caring manner. Please also note that there be times when not all of these procedures are available in all of our offices.
Orthodontics Very few of us have perfectly straight teeth, most people stand to benefit from orthodontics. Common problems an orthodontist can help with include overbites or buck teeth, under bites, gaps, and overcrowding or overlapping teeth. Orthodontic treatment is usually done when the teeth and jaws are still forming in childhood and early adolescence, however we also offer adult orthodontic care. Braces are the most common way to correct irregularly positioned teeth. Ask us about our "no down payment" orthodontic payment plans.
Gum Treatments Our dentists are very concerned about the health of your entire mouth. Often times patients are only focused on the health of their teeth, but in fact the condition of your gums and supporting bone can be the primary cause of tooth loss. Together with our team of skilled hygienists, our doctors will evaluate all of your oral needs. He or she will provide you with treatment that ranges from deep cleaning of teeth and gums to surgical removal of infection, to surgery that actually may restore soft tissue and bone damaged by periodontal disease. There may be times when your condition requires the care of a periodontist. A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of periodontal disease. Some periodontists also treat jaw joint disorders (TMJ disorder) and are skilled in replacing missing teeth with dental implants. Ask us about seeing a periodontist at our offices or about a referral to a periodontist outside of our practice.
